Because of the amount of force involved, head-on collisions always have the potential to cause serious injuries and fatalities.

A head-on car accident resulted in the injuries of at least six individuals last weekend. The accident occurred about 1 p.m. on Ohio 4. Witnesses report that a Honda Accord left its lane and hit a Dodge Durango SUV. The State Highway Patrol stated that the Durango carried six people who were on their way to a basketball game at a nearby high school.

Toby Sebastian, an Ohio state trooper, stated that the driver of the SUV had driven off the road in an attempt to avoid the Honda as it entered its lane.

Fire and Emergency crews arrived on the scene shortly after the accident. A 48-year-old woman who was a passenger in the SUV was airlifted to Miami Valley Hospital because of her injuries.

The Highway Patrol did not provide information on the condition of the 50-year-old female who was driving the SUV at the time of the accident. The other passengers in the SUV, including an 11-year-old boy and a teenage girl, were taken to a nearby hospital and treated for less serious injuries.

The 38-year-old male driver of the Honda Accord also suffered serious injuries. According to state troopers, the man's injuries appeared to be life threatening and he was also flown to Miami Valley Hospital.

The accident remains under investigation, but officials believe it was caused by driver inattention or a medical condition. Residents living near this stretch of Ohio 4 believe it to be a dangerous stretch of road. It is one of the few portions of Ohio 4 that drivers are allowed to pass each other.
