Many people in the Ohio agricultural community lost a friend and colleague last month. Well-known agricultural broadcaster, Lindsay Hill, was killed while driving her pick-up truck on the morning of May 19, 2011 just west of Springfield, Ohio. As reported by the Ohio Highway Patrol, the fatal accident occurred at the intersection of Route 41 and Route 235 in western Clark County. The pick-up truck driven by Ms. Hill apparently rolled onto its side and struck a light pole. Only Ms. Hill was killed. She was 31 years old.
The other driver, a 28-year-old St. Paris man, was injured. According to the police spokesperson, Lt. Matt Cleaveland of the Springfield post of the Ohio Highway Patrol, it appears that one of the vehicles may have failed to stop for a red light at the intersection. At this time, fault for the accident has not been established.
Most recently, Hill served as the president of the board for the National Association of Farm Broadcasting based in Missouri. She was only one of three Ohioans to serve as the board president of the NAFB. A long-time champion of agriculture in Ohio, Hill is noted for starting the Buckeye Ag Radio Network in 2005 along with her husband Andy Vance. In 2007, they acquired the Agri Broadcast Network that had been based in Columbus, Ohio.
A standard-bearer for farmers in Ohio, Hill was at the center of everything happening in Ohio agriculture. Among her many interests was the use of social media to further the causes of farmers and agri-business in Ohio.
In 2008, Ohio State University awarded Hill the William Oxley Thompson Award for Early Career Achievement. In 2009, the OSU College of Food, Agriculture and Environmental Sciences Alumni Society gave her the Young Professional Achievement Award.
